Badgework fulfils an important role in all of the sections. Not only does it serve to give the evening a structure and aim, but it also enables the young people to strive, achieve and develop many new life skills whilst having lots of fun along the way.

Badges are divided into different categories for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts:

  • Core
  • Activity
  • Staged
  • Challenge
  • Chief Scout

Core Badges include badges which are given to young people when they are invested into the Group. (Become official members, usually after a few weeks of attendance and completion of investiture badge work.)

Activity Badges cover a multitude of things to learn such as camping skills, creative, cycling, archery, safety, experiments, awareness, faith, global issues and many more.

Staged Badges focus on a particular subject and become more challenging as the young people become older and move onto to the next section within the group. Stage 1 badges are usually completed in the Beaver section. Staged Badges include Air Activities, Nights Away, Hiking, Emergency Aid, Swimming, Musician, Time on the Water, Digital Citizen, Sailing, Navigator and much, much more.

Challenge Badges incorporate elements of the Activity Badges but at a higher level. Each section has a number of Challenge Badges to aim towards achieving.

Chief Scout Awards are the highest Challenge Levels that young people can earn within their section of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. They are achieved when all of the section Challenge Badges have been completed and awarded. Chief Scout Badges have different levels:

Beavers - Bronze
Cubs - Silver
Scouts - Gold
