Scouting is an international and inclusive uniformed youth movement. It welcomes young people of any gender, cultural / religious background and ability and provides them with a wealth of opportunity to develop and grow both personally and socially.

At the moment, there are three different sections at the 9th Barking & Dagenham.
These are explained below:

Beaver Scouts welcome children from the ages of 5 and 3/4 years to 8 years old. Beavers are the second youngest section within the Scout movement. At the 9th Barking & Dagenham Beavers meet for an hour and fifteen minutes every Tuesday from 6pm until 7:15pm. During their evening they will play lots of different games, work towards different badges (see badges page), learn different life skills and make many new friends.

Cub Scouts welcome children from the ages of 8 years to 10 and a 1/2 years old. Cubs also meet on Tuesday evenings at the 9th Barking & Dagenham in a different hall next to the Beavers. They meet from 6:30pm until 8pm. Cubs are run in the same way as Beavers during their evening but at a slightly higher level because they are that little bit older.

Scouts welcome young people from the ages of 10 and a 1/2 years to 14 years old. (When a young person becomes 14, they move up into Explorer Scouts, which is a District provision). Scouts work and play at higher levels than the Cubs and are encouraged to be more independent in their learning and badge work. The 9th Barking & Dagenham Scouts meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:30pm until 9pm.
